Backstory: Shortly after being born, Paige was left at an orphanage, given by hand to a nun named Sister Agnes. To the sister, it was if angels had appeared in a ray of holy light, as Paige's parents Patricia Halliwell and Sam Wilder, a Witch and a Whitelighter, hid away their child in the safest place they knew of that neither demons nor the Wightlighter Elders would too quickly discover. Their relationship was a forbidden secret to begin with, and a child of theirs being discovered could have had dire consequences. As a result, she has the powers of both, though her Whitelighter abilities are more subdued than her human Witch half.

Paige grew up without any knowledge of her true parents, lucky enough to find a good home with the Matthews family, though her foster parents passed away some time ago. While performing her job as a social worker in San Francisco, she found herself constantly drawn to the club run by her half-sisters, whom she had tracked down but was always too afraid to approach. Her biological mother, she learned, had also already passed away, and it would have been extremely awkward to suggest their deceased mother had some kind of affair to bring Paige to life. In truth, it had been after a divorce that Paige had no knowledge of, and found out about later.

When one of the Halliwell sisters, Prue, was killed by the demon, Shax, Paige couldn't resist attending her funeral, though she had no excuse when questioned by Phoebe on how it was she knew Prue at all in the first place. Upon their shaking hands, Phoebe was given a vision of Paige becoming Shax's next target, and she later came to her aid, only to find a bewildered Paige teleporting out of the way of Shax's lightning blast in a flurry of white orbs as a defensive reflex. Paige ran away at first, but came by the Halliwell manor later to both explain herself and figure out the rest of their connection. Without much time for words, Shax attacked again, but was easily vanquished now that there was a third sister Witch for the spell they needed to perform. After the fight, Paige was naturally overwhelmed, and fled again, only to cross paths with the sisters after her boyfriend was possessed by a demon trying to sway her into darkness. Once the demon was driven out and its control over Paige was broken, she felt far too indebted to run away again, and after all, they were her sisters.

Since then, Paige has more than embraced her duties as Whitelighter and her so called destiny as a Witch of the Halliwell line, she and her sisters commonly referred to as the magically famous Charmed Ones. Mundanely, they supposedly work for the government on top level cases, which even the sisters themselves admit always sounds ridiculous. They are constantly in contact with the higher level forces of both good and evil, able to unite their powers in order to guarantee the success of almost any spell. On her own, Paige is not much more powerful than any other Witch, though she does have special abilities in relation to her Whitelighter side. Like Prue, she has telekinesis, but it manifests in the form of teleporting, or "orbing," objects either to herself or to another place by calling out their name. Likewise, she can also orb herself the same way, along with anyone she is directly in contact with by her touch or a circle of hands. As Whitelighters act much like guardian angels, she also hears "jingles" from her charges, and must sometimes unexpectedly orb away to their aid, temporarily gifted with whatever foreign language they speak. On very rare occasion, she manages to heal others at an accelerated and powerful level, and is also especially gifted at amplifying to healing gifts of others through herself. She cannot, however, return the dead to life, nor can any Whitelighter short of the Elders themselves.

As for Paige's coming to St. Catherine's, she simply needs a job at this point, and was sought out after the old Headmistress unexpectedly quit. Paige has former experience from the Elders' magic school, but she and her sisters seem to constantly fall out of their good graces. Like with her former job as a social worker, she has always been fond of spending extra time with problem children, because she used to be one herself. Serving as both Headmistress, Professor, and Charmed One, she'll be even more spread out and busier than before, constantly prone to leaving at any given time due to "family emergencies." Though she does have a room on campus, she still considers herself to live in the Halliwell manor, which is an easy task for someone who can quickly teleport across the world.
